once upon a time, there was a plot of land. . . .

A short time ago, in a land very, very close by, there lived a sick red maple.  (It was so sickly, that it requested its picture not be taken.)  But then one day, a gallant knight from the Lane of Abbey bought the plot of land upon which stood the sad twig.  "Poor Little Red," said he, "I will love you and give you supplements of iron for strength; I will make the world around you a beautiful place where children will laugh and play, where animals will live and plants will thrive; I will make you the finest shade of autumn.

As the years passed, the gallant knight kept his promise.  Each year as the tree put on her loveliest red dress, and the happy children laughed.  Soon, chickens were joining in, adding their egg songs to the chorus.  Plants of many kinds thrived, bringing goodness to all.

Alas, our gallant knight was not content, and so he labored tirelessly throughout the hot summer, putting his ingenuity to the test.  So unfolds the story below:

Oh gallant knight, we bestow upon you the depths of our gratitude for life in a haven, such as this.
